The Enver Hoxha Mausoleum

The Enver Hoxha Mausoleum is located in Tirana, Albania. It was designed like a pyramid by the daughter and son-in-law of a communist leader by the name of Enver Hoxha. It was created in 1988 and still stands today.
Uses of the Enver Hoxha Mausoleum
The Enver Hoxha Mausoleum was intended as a legacy to Enver Hoxha, but instead ended up as a conference center and place to throw parties. In 1999, during the Kosovo war, the United Nations took control of the building, and turned it into a humanitarian base.
Controversy about the future of the Enver Hoxha Mausoleum
The Enver Hoxha Mausoleum has had a life of stagnancy as of late, and there are plans to demolish it. The building is 17,000 square meters and the government of Albania plans to use it to build a new Albanian parliament building. This has caused an outrage in the architectural community as it wants to preserve historical buildings; however, the Albanian government is not particularly fond of the mausoleum's history. One such architect and historian by the name of Ardian Klosi has petitioned for the mausoleum to remain standing, and has collected 6000 signatures. Before designated as a place for the Albanian Parliament it was going to be turned into an opera house, but the plans halted suddenly without explanation.
The Enver Hoxha Mausoleum has had an interesting history during a time of political turmoil in Albania, but it may not see the end of the next decade if the government has its way.
